Maintaining the right oil level in your car is essential for its performance and longevity. Here’s a quick guide on how to add petroleum to your vehicle in just five steps.
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Before you start, make sure you have the following items ready:
- The right type of motor lubricant for your car (check your owner’s manual)
- A funnel (optional, but helpful to avoid spills)
- A clean rag or paper towel
Step 2: Park Your Car and Prepare
Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle, then open the hood. Locate the lubricant dipstick, which is typically marked with a bright handle, and remove it to check the current lubricant level.
Step 3: Check the Oil Level
Wipe the dipstick with a clean rag and reinsert it fully. Pull it out again and observe the petroleum level. If the petroleum is below the minimum mark, it’s time to add more lubricant.
Step 4: Add Oil
If you need to add petroleum, locate the lubricant filler cap and remove it. Place the funnel in the opening, if you have one, and pour in the recommended type of petroleum slowly. Start with a small amount and check the dipstick frequently to avoid overfilling.
Step 5: Check and Clean Up
After adding oil, replace the lubricant filler cap and wipe any spills. Check the dipstick one last time to ensure the petroleum level is within the recommended range. Close the hood, and you’re good to go!
